Laser Diagnostics/Micro-Dentistry

We can’t cure what we can’t see!

This state-of-the-art equipment can benefit patients in many ways. This pen-like probe simply glides over tooth surfaces, constantly checking the health of the tooth. The harmless laser light searches for signs of hidden decay. A number scale signals when there is hidden decay. This technology is completely safe and pain-free.

Fortunately, by using the diagnostic laser, cavities are found when they are small. Prompt treatment of small cavities stops the spread of decay before it destroys the tooth from within.

Today, diagnosing cavities is more challenging because the disease process can start with microscopic defects and readily spread into the inner tooth structure without leaving a noticeable cavity for the eye.

In other words, the external surface of the tooth still appears to be healthy. X-rays are simply unreliable for detecting subsurface decay when the cavity is in its early stages. Fortunately, the new DIAGNOdent is a major breakthrough that allows us to monitor tooth surfaces and locate hidden decay.
